LAST Wednesday was a busy day for the Blue Lake Golf Club women, with the running of the April monthly medal sponsored by Grant and Dianne Perryman, along with the third round of the Collins Court Butcher Captain’s Trophy and the second of three qualifying rounds of the upcoming handicap championships.

A break in the recent dry spell saw a bit more coverage on the fairways after a few showers the previous day and the monthly medal winner Sue Agars found the course to her liking.

She claimed the top voucher in Division 1 after signing for 92/20/72, with pars on three of the four par 3 holes – the second, 14th and 16th –  in her splits of 47/45.

Second place went to the ever-consistent Rosemary Martland 87/14/73, with a birdie on the 12th hole and pars on the 13th and 14th in her splits of 45/42.

After a count-back from Helen Myers, Trudy Herbert took the the place voucher, with both signing for nett 74.

Herbert scored pars on the second and fifth holes in her splits of 51/51 off her 28 handicap, while Myers scored 91/17/74.

Regular Saturday players Kristy Janeway and Renae McQuade came in first and second in Division 2, able to join the Wednesday competition while on holidays.

Janeway posted 113/35/78 and her splits of 56/57 included a par on the long par 5 fourth hole and one on the dog-leg par 4 15th.

Meanwhile McQuade posted 117/37/80 with splits of 60/57.

Unfortunately a few large blowouts hampered her score and the same could be said for third-placed Lee Anderson (37) in her splits of 59/59 nett 81.

A couple of big numbers marred a better score.

Nearest to the pin second-shot winners on the 14th hole were Herbert (1.05) and Rose Case (3.95).

Martland had a birdie on the 12th hole, with chip in ferrets for Anderson in the second hole, Allison Mullan the seventh, Annette Ford the13th and Agars.
